Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a more defined direction.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address community desires.

This announcement echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having spent the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most well-known titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Brinkman currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the category."
